Esterquats (TEA-Esterquat/TEA-Quats/TEAQ/Tallow-Esterquats) Production Technology

Esterquats (TEA-Esterquat/TEA-Quats /TEAQ/Tallow-Esterquats)

Ballestra offers state-of-the-art production plants for Esterquats, a family of partially bio-based Cationic Surfactants used primarily in fabric softener formulations. Esterquats are widely appreciated for their:

  • Biodegradability: Greater environmental sustainability.
  • Softening Properties: Effective fabric conditioning.
  • Antistatic Behavior: Reduces static cling in textiles.

Production Process

The synthesis of TEA-Quats involves two key sequential stages:

  • Esterification: Fatty Acid or Methyl Ester reacts with Triethanolamine (TEA) to produce Ester Amine.
  • Quaternization: The resulting Ester Amine is alkylated with dimethyl sulfate to form Esterquats, a quaternary ammonium compound.

Ballestra Plant Design
Ballestra provides flexible solutions depending on the plant's capacity and production goals:

  • Single Reactor Configuration: A cost-effective solution for smaller production scales, performing both stages in one reactor.
  • Two Reactors in Series:
  • The first reactor efficiently handles esterification.
The second reactor specializes in quaternization.
This configuration ensures optimized reaction control, higher productivity, and superior product quality.

Key Features

  • Optimized Reaction Conditions: Accurate temperature and pressure control during both stages.
  • High Efficiency: Enhanced yield and reduced production waste.

  • Top-Quality Output: Guaranteed high-purity Esterquats for superior product performance.
  • Scalability: Flexible plant design for small and large production capacities
