Vacuum Neutralization Technology

Advanced Product Quality and Dioxane Removal

Vacuum Neutralization Technology

Ballestra's Vacuum Neutralization Technology represents a significant advancement in the production of high-quality surfactants, particularly for the direct neutralization of ethoxysulphates.

This innovative process not only ensures top-tier product quality but also addresses critical industry challenges such as dioxane removal, performed with no need of supply of extra steam to the system and product deaeration.

Superior Neutralization Process

Unlike traditional methods, Ballestra's proprietary Vacuum Neutralization Technology operates with advanced precision in a wiped film evaporator, enabling the direct neutralization of sulphonic acids with caustic soda or alternative alkaline agents (e.g., ammonia). The result is a high-concentration, dioxane-free ethoxysulphate paste (SLES), ensuring purity and enhanced product quality.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Efficient Dioxane Removal:
Achieves in SLES 1-2-3 EO dioxane content below 10 ppm (referred to 100% Active Matter)  when combined with the Ballestra SULPHONEXT Multitube Falling Film Reactor.
Dioxane removal is performed with no need of feeding the system with any extra steam, since dioxane stripping takes place by means of the heat made available by the neutralization reaction.
Azeotropic evaporation of the water/dioxane mixture ensures product safety and regulatory compliance.

  • High-Quality, Deaerated Product:
Enhanced product density and improved appearance (transparency) through efficient deaeration.
  • Optimized Operating Conditions:
  • Mild processing with precise temperature control and minimal residence time at high temperatures eliminates risks of hydrolysis or product degradation.
  • High Flexibility and Reliability:
Capable of processing various raw materials and surfactant types.
Smooth transition between different raw materials with minimal contamination.
  • High Active Paste Production:
Achieves high active concentration (70-75%) without the need for solvents or hydrotropes during plant start-up.

Applications and Technological Edge

Ballestra's Vacuum Neutralization Technology offers unmatched operational flexibility, making it ideal for the production of SLES and other anionic surfactants. This solution guarantees superior product consistency, efficiency, energy savings and compliance with global quality standards.
