Anionic Surfactants Drying

Efficient Drying Technologies for Anionic Surfactants

Anionic Surfactants Drying

Ballestra offers cutting-edge solutions for the drying of anionic surfactants, ensuring superior product quality, high efficiency, and process reliability. Our technologies are specifically designed for Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), Alpha Olefin Sulphonate (AOS), Methylester Sulphonate (MES), and Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate Sodium Salt (LABSNa), supporting various production needs for powder, granules, flakes or needles.

Drying of SLS, AOS, MES and others: Vertical Wiped Film Evaporator
Ballestra employs a specially designed vertical wiped film evaporator, optimized for high efficiency and product homogeneity during the drying process.

Key Features and Advantages:

  • High Efficiency: Concentration/drying achieved with minimal delta T between the heating medium and process fluid.
  • Narrow Residence Time: Uniform and short residence time prevents overheating and quality degradation.
  • Superior Product Homogeneity: Consistent and high-quality output.
  • High Dryness Achieved: Residual moisture as low as 3%.
  • Flexible Operation: Start-up, shutdown, and product changeovers are quick and efficient.
  • Energy Optimization: High thermal efficiency reduces operational costs.

Process Description:

  • Feed and Drying: The surfactant paste is fed under mass control to the top of the evaporator (operating at atmospheric pressure or vacuum, depending on the surfactant type).
  • Evaporation: Water is evaporated uniformly as the rotating blades ensure a perfect product distribution and prevent material buildup on the walls.
  • Product Discharge: The dried product is discharged and sent to subsequent processing steps such as needling, conditioning, granulation, or milling.

Drying of LABSNa: Drum Dryer Technology

For the production of dry LABSNa a key ingredient in rim-blocks/toilet tablets.
Ballestra uses a robust and efficient Drum Dryer System.
Process Overview:

  • Neutralization:
LABS (sulphonic acid) is neutralized with caustic soda in a high-shear mixer in a recycling loop under flow control.
Sodium sulfate and sodium citrate slurry are added during the neutralization step.
  • Drying (Drum Dryer):
The neutralized paste is fed into the gap between two rotating drums.
A thin product layer dries through indirect heating and is removed by knives as a continuous film of dry product.
  • Cooling and Milling:
The dried flakes are cooled in a cooling tunnel.
Flakes are broken and processed in a centrifugal mill to achieve the desired fine powder granulometry.

Key Advantages:

  • Consistent Quality: Low residual moisture and uniform product size.
  • High Efficiency: Optimized heat transfer ensures rapid and effective drying.
  • Robust and Reliable: Designed for sticky and pasty products, ensuring smooth and continuous operation.

Key Benefits for Clients:

  • Optimized Drying Solutions: Tailored for SLS, AOS, MES, LABSNa and others.
  • Energy and Cost Efficiency: Reduced energy consumption with superior thermal optimization.
  • High Product Quality: Homogeneity, low moisture content, and consistent particle size.
  • Safe and Reliable Operations: Inert environments for powder production eliminate explosion risks.
