Spray-Drying Plant for Detergent Powder: Advanced Technology

SABIZ Spray-drying Technology

Ballestra’s spray-drying plants for detergent powders are designed to produce high-quality, low and medium-density detergent powders. These plants support the full production process, from raw material handling to slurry preparation, spray-drying, post-addition of thermosensitive components and other ingredients.

With over 64 years of expertise and cutting-edge innovation, Ballestra provides tailor-made solutions that meet the demands of global markets formulation while ensuring efficiency and sustainability.

Key Features of Spray-Drying Plant Technology

Raw Material Handling & Pneumatic Transport

Our systems manage solid raw materials in bulk, big bags, or standard bags. Advanced pneumatic transport (diluted and dense phase) ensures efficient and clean delivery to the process plant. Sieving and dusting systems maintain optimal hygiene and process continuity.

Slurry Preparation

Ballestra’s fully automated system ensures high-concentration, homogeneous slurries. Raw materials are dosed via a computerized system into a high-turbulence Crutcher. Precision equipment—mass flowmeters and load cells—optimizes dosing, while our proprietary high-pressure pump guarantees stable slurry transfer to the spray-drying tower.

Spray-Drying Tower

Designed using advanced CFD simulations, our towers optimize thermal efficiency and particle control. Slurry is atomized through high-performance nozzles, while smokeless furnaces provide clean hot air, preserving the whiteness and purity of detergent powders.

Post-Addition & Perfuming

Thermosensitive ingredients and fragrances are added after drying to ensure stability and effectiveness. Our Rotary Blender ensures gentle mixing, delivering consistent product quality with excellent homogeneity and flowability.

Heat Recovery System (HRS)

Our proprietary HRS minimizes energy consumption and reduces CO2 emissions.

  • Heat from exhaust air is captured using a proprietary heat exchanger with built-in CIP (Cleaning in Place) technology.
  • Savings of up to 18% in fuel consumption are achieved, ensuring environmental sustainability and cost-efficiency.
  • Optional co-generation systems for large plants can further boost energy efficiency.
Sodium chloride dosing in detergent formulations
Ballestra has developed proprietary solutions and metallurgies to allow dosing in detergent formulations of special fillers, such as sodium chloride.
