Diammonium Phosphate and Monoammonium Phosphate

DAP and MAP

Ballestra offers advanced technologies for the production of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP), two essential fertilizers used in agriculture.

These phosphatic fertilizers are produced using a reaction between phosphoric acid and ammonia in specialized reactors, ensuring efficient and high-quality production. Below is an overview of the process and advantages of each fertilizer type.

Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) Production

DAP is produced by reacting phosphoric acid with ammonia in a highly exothermic reaction. The chemical reaction produces diammonium phosphate:
NH₃ + H₃PO₄ → (NH₄)₂HPO₄ (DAP)

The advantages of DAP production in a reactor include:

  • High Flexibility: The plant can quickly and easily switch among DAP, MAP, and multiple NPK formulations.
  • Efficient Use of Heat: The reaction heat is efficiently utilized, reducing energy consumption. Pipe Reactor allows to operate plant at lower water balance in slurry generation minimizing recycle ratios required and by hence reducing electricity consumption in the overall plant.
  • Improved Production Rates: Increased production rates with reduced recycle ratios.
  • Higher Product Quality: Consistent nitrogen content and reduced chemically insoluble P₂O₅, resulting in a cleaner product with minimal dust.

Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) Production

MAP is produced by reacting phosphoric acid with ammonia in a similar reaction that forms monoammonium phosphate:
NH₃ + H₃PO₄ → NH₄H₂PO₄ (MAP)
The advantages of MAP production include:

  • Rapid Transition: The same plant can switch from DAP to MAP production without significant downtime as far the K2O is not present in the recycle
  • Energy Efficiency: The exothermic reaction helps to evaporate water in the recycled solution, utilizing heat effectively.
  • Quality Control: MAP's nitrogen content is optimized, with minimal presence of insoluble P₂O₅ and reduced dust formation..

Key Features of DAP and MAP Production:

Water Content: Both DAP and MAP have approximately 1.5% water content.
Granulometry: Granules are sized between 2mm and 5mm (90-92% of the product). 95% It is also achivable on client request and some extra tailored equipment to be added.
Hardness: The final granules exhibit a hardness of 4 kgf.

Both DAP production plants and MAP production plants benefit from a well-optimized process that guarantees high yield and efficiency. When combined with additional raw materials such as KCl, NPK formulations can also be produced to meet various agricultural needs.
